Adaptation and Why it is Essential to Personal Growth
Life is not about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself. -Lolly Daskal
We all change. We wake up one way in the morning, and then we go to bed just a little bit different. In the winter, you are a little bit different than you were in the summer. On your birthday, if you really think about it, you will realize that you are not the same person that you were the year before.
Personal growth and adaptation are essential to success, though they can also be confusing. If we are not aware of how we are changing and adapting, then we can run the risk of getting in the way of our own natural progression towards betterment.
What is even worse, however, is when we change with no direction and no expectation of who or what we desire to become. You are going to change, that much is for sure… but how are you going to change? Are you going to grow in a positive direction, or a negative one? Are you going to get more or less patient? Are you going to become a better communicator, or are you going to go in the opposite direction and cause more conflict?
These are all questions that we must ask ourselves, because they are questions that literally shape who we are. In the end, we all have a choice in how we adapt and change.
We can either adapt and grow in a positive direction and become a better person.
Or…
We can flounder, lose direction, and become more negative.
Contrary to popular belief, there is actually no middle or ‘stagnant’ ground when it comes to personal growth. Even people who seem not to change actually do quite a bit of changing, despite the fact that it may not be as noticeable.
Adaptation, however, is essential to personal growth because we must adapt our mindsets to meet new challenges and to face new obstacles. You need to become more aware off your surroundings, better at seeing end results, and more comfortable with your choices. You also need to get better at research and more efficient with your time. Becoming a better communicator and a more positive person are also definite necessities.
If you can learn to do these things as you progress in life, then there is a very good chance that you will begin to see positive personal growth in a better direction. You will begin to like yourself more and to be more comfortable in your own skin. It will also make you more likely to succeed, because there are few things that teach you more about living than life experience itself.
